Running temp.

Post by Horney »

My 1.9 DG used to run with the needle sat opretty much dead centre.

The last couple of days it's not climbing past the top of the cold block of white.

This has me a little worried that everything may not be right somewhere, does anyone know what could cause this? THe weather has actually been warmer recently so it's not down to the outside temperature.

Where does the dash gauge pick up it's reading? One of my thoughts was that the water pump maybe dieing and not pumping the coolant round effieciently or that I have an air lock. Any ideas?

Cheers,

Nick

OK i'll have a look at that.

I would have thought tho even with the thermostat stuck open it would get above cold on my drive to work which is a combination of dual carriage way (70mph cruise) and stop start traffic.

I would imagine the best way to check if its the thermostat would be to leave it ticking over on the drive. That way the radiator won't cool the fluid down, if the temperature reaches normal level its your thermostat.

It still moves, just not very far. I'll try leaving it on tick over and checking the rad and see what happens and report back tomorrow!

Ok took it for a good run on the way back from work as well as a nice long traffic queue. Turned on the blowers and lots of nice hot air but the temp gauge still only read half way through the cold white block.

From this I assume that the thermostat is working as the heaters only started blowing hot air after about 5 mins of driving.

Sound like the sender unit to you guys?

remove the wire from the sender on the engine, earth it out, watch the temp gauge when you turn ignition on,should climb to top pretty sharpish, turn ign off, this will test the wiring circuit!
