Sounds like it could be head gasket maybe.

Is that engine notorious for corroded head bolts?

Sounds serious whatever :(

hi exactly same as mine the problem was a combination of a stuck valve and oil seals completly wrecked on one cylinder. have had to take engine out and strip down so when im this far will replace all barells and pistons so as not to do it again in a few mths.expensive yes but then not so as i know i will have a new top end.

so far £ 400 for 4 pistons & barrels and full gasket set from justkampers basicly just have to build it up now but will put new water pump and thermostat on as well o and will make sure i put in proper water coolent additave at £40 as there was no rust in engine at all.all in all i hope to get away with £600 roughly but if you only want to fix the one cylinder it could be done for £200 ish
