headlining

Post by dbroada »

I have a rust hole just above my windcreen, part above he hitop leading edge. Its not really accessable to repair from the outside but do you know if I can get to the inside? The headlining is in good condition but I am willing to remove it if I can repair the damage.

How easy is it to remove? It looks to be glued in place. Is it possible to replace?

Its easy enough to remove, but it will probably have become a little brittle and tight over the years, getting it to fit back again is a pig of a job, some people make their own, I think Brickyard have a guide on how to do that.

thanks Cate,
I saw the instruction in the wiki (I looked for a change!) but it doesn't really make sense yet. It it just glued in place or are there some hidden fittings?

You see the seams across the lining, there are bars which go through a loop on the other side and slot into holes an either sides of the roof, they just support the lining upwards, thats the easy bit.
Around the edge it is held in place by a metal lip which clamps down over it, if you slide a screwdriver up the edge of the lining you can prise the metal lip open, thus releasing the lining.

Only do as little as you need to or you may have to replace a chunk, depending on the flexibility of your lining, warming it up helps it streeeeetch just a little to put it back.

Good luck.
