Seriously Bob - before you panic, or start changing clocks - check the contacts in the white plug behind the steering wheel/under the dash. I had one variable thing working until Marcus gave mine a rub (never speedo or dash lights), now I have any combination, but always speedo.....you might be even luckier....

check the face if the numbers that record the milage seem to have fallen back if so pin has sliped out of back
not too hard the dismantle and put back together again
when i looked at it electrics just affect the speedo itself then a gearing system works the mileage recorder which in turn works the trip recorder so should be mech problem rather than electrical
