Viking roof struts

Post by happytheman »

Hi, does anyone know where I can get struts for my viking roof? I'm sure they are weak, it takes two of us to get the roof up, one to hold it up while the other acrobatically climbs up to secure the struts in place.

Cheers,

Andy

I've done some more research and found a company who deals with this roof at www.campershop.co.uk

Has anyone heard or used this company?

Thanks

Think I should have used a more imaginative subject title, only 15 views. Anyway, have ordered the struts and roof seal from campershop this morning and will feed back on service etc. Sounded very professional when I rang and placed my order.

Viking Roof Struts Update

Post by happytheman »

Still only twenty views, definitely a boring subject.

The struts have arrived and will be putting them on in situ as it were this weekend while away. Also got some nice new seal for the roof edge and new catches. All came next day delivery.

Question though: The struts seem to be very stiff, will the roof shut once fitted? I'm 19 stone and leaning on them does nothing, although the full weight wasn't on them.

Cheers,

Andy

Struts are very difficult to compress, the ones on my tailgate were hard enough, they should be ok once your roof is on, sorry don't know much about viking roofs, never had one, good luck with fitting them on.

I fitted new struts on my van bought from the same place as your. Difficult job to fit with the strength of the struts as you have to compress them slightly to fit them. It is a job for 2 people

Andy - it's not boring, your title is too precise.......precision is good, but in this case changing the title to "how do I fit struts" will get you more information now that you have them in hand...... best of luck......

i have seen these viking things with 4 struts on.... mine had 3.
nitice on the website it lists 2 (are they the right ones? as per fitting, def 2 or 3 man job.easiest is to detach the roof struts when its up, and hod in that position. it wont be too heavy as that is the balance point. (have done it myself) the one in the rear corner will be the hassle one. dont forget to put the locking bars on the struts when you change them!
any probs, mail me..

Thanks for the advice, will definitely think of better titles. Redstar, will take you up on further advice if needed, there'll be two of us this weekend so shouldn't be much of a problem. The third one I have is just in the middle and seems to guide the roof as opposed to opening/holding the roof. Off to Anglesey tomorrow for maiden camping trip and can't wait :D

See you all soon

I have a hook and eye to hold up a piece so that you can use the cooker without bending over. There's also a handle which I haven't used yet but I presume it's for helping to push up or pull down.

Putting the struts in was a piece of cake, did it myself in ten minutes for both. Luckily no compression was needed as just a little leverage on the roof helped. I did worry whether it would come down easily but it did. :D I'm now one happy bunny and this weekend I'm replacing the catches and the rubber trim.
