Which Starter Motor?

I have an 88 Transporter, originally a 1600 TD but which now has a 1Y 1.9 D fitted. I have been advised that the starter will be from the 1Y engine and not from the original TD. Anyone know if this is the case?

You need the 1.6 starter.

i will second that use the t3 1.6 diesel starter (the car engine ones are smaller and a different shape) i'm using a 1.6td starter motor on my van and it spins my 1z motor over no trouble
