Service time

Post by Monkey »

Its about time I serviced my van. I've left it far to long.

First Question: What do people recommend in the way of oil.
Its a 2.1 dj 1990. high mileage.

Second question: Apart from all the usual service bits is there anything I should do while im at it that may not be so obvious.

Thanks
Aid

imho stay away from cheap supermarket second user oil, and stay away from synthetic too, good basic mineral oil is the way to go, i use halfwits in the orangey red can, Basic mineral oil.

15W 40 is it, are they, was she?

Don't go messing with that nasty thin synthetic stuff - it's got black magic in it I tell thee.

Also use genuine filters and wear sunscreen.

Thin oil + old seals = leaks & trouble

It's all based on anecdotal evidence, mostly from on 80-90. About once a year we have a big oil discussion on here, mineral vs synth and it ends with those who use synth saying it's the best and those who use mineral saying it's the best and life continues to unwrinkle at much the same pace.

I would'nt recommend any advise from them, they have no idea on new vw's.
