crankshaft seal

Post by trikey »

hello all, had a garage fit a new crankshaft oil seal to my 1990 1.7 deisel and it`s leaking again, spoke to the garage and they told me it must be a worn engine with endfloat, it`s on the cambelt end so i do`nt like messing with it , just wondered if anyone knows if it`s easy to adjust the endfloat,
cheers

Seems to me from where I'm sitting like you've been told a load of sh=t, a new oil seal can leak for a number of reasons, the first and obvious one is excessive wear ridge on the seating, it can also be put down to being fitted incorrectly/badly.

Any pro' knowing their job would have checked and pointed out any excessive wear where the oil seal sits and or excessive end float, before they fitted a new seal.

End float is ajustable by adding the correct thrust shims/washers, I hate to say it but your garage sounds like they no nothing about the 'real mechanics' of an engine.

Ae you sure its the crankshaft seal and not the intermediate, only When the intermeditae seal leaks it runs down past the crankshaft seal ( behind the drive belt guard)..
