Coil query???...

Post by Artfuldubber »

Hi Guys,

my van's been off the road for a while with numerous jobs needin doin (sounds familiar I'm sure!) Anyhow, she won't start now. New battery, fuel seems to be flowing OK, so I've turned my attention to the electrics...Thought I'd test the coil (green sticker) manual says primary should be between 0.5 and 0.8 ohms on the primary...mine is reading 1.1 ohms (secondary is perfect). Is this 1.1 ohm redaing reason to bin it??? The manual says if it's outside these tolerances, replace it...just seems pretty close to me and may not improve anything???

I'd really appreciate your opinions as always,

All the Best, Art :D

Nice 1 :D

beats me how stuffin a coil up her...oh back to the subject then..I'm not too bothered about te coil now anyhow, as I seem to be getting a really decent spark out the end of the HT....I'm just gonna check the plugs for good sparks now.

What does concern me is that despite havin a nice powerful new battery shes turnin over real slow and reluctantly???

Any thoughts appreciated...even jokes...I could do with a laugh, it's bl***y cold outside!

Cheers, Art

Cheers, yeah I'm beginning to suspect the starter, although I thought I still might have heard it fire on one of the cylinders...or won't that happen if it turns too slow???

Anyhow the starter is a replacement 2nd hand 6 months ago so maybe that was a mistake. I've had the wiring off, cleaned all the terminals, had the main earth straps off and cleaned all them up. Nice sparks at the plugs (even though they are as black as night from an obviously rich mixture!)

So it might be time to bite the bullet with a new starter..it certainly won't do any harm except to the bank balance!

Cheers for now, Art
