Hi
First posting for a while as ive bin rebuilding the van...
Wondered if anyone can cast a comment on this ..
replaced engine last week, 2litre cu.no history started fine and got warm..
then ran lumpy..and lacked power, so checked everything.fuel, timing, leads etc.renewed everything that was required!! service wise. started well then ran lumpy..
So thought check tappets. So backed them off till just touching on all valves. started and ran GREAT!!! Went for a run and went BEST ever.
So my question is WHY??..lifters hydros so should be set 1 to 2 turns in shouldn't they ?
Will engine be ok if I leave them set as they are now...just touching?
Cheers Nev

lifters hydros where proberly not pumped up .Adjustment is matter of opinium experiance and technical bently / haynes manuals and website technical info for VW aircool T4 engines. If you adjusted like manual tappets run the engine for a while this should then pump up.Then adjust screw in 1 1/2 turns .As you set them till just touching it will now most likley be fully pumped up hard.I had a lot of problems my self recently with my cu 2ltr with hydros lifters.I adjust mine fully pumped up max 1 1/2 turnes.
