Front brake back plate MOT failure?
My T25 caravelle has failed its MOT on a few small things. One being the back plates on the front discs have rotted. If I take these off would it still fail MOT. The reason I ask is that most cars don't have them and its not a problem.

MOT fail
Sounds like he's talking about the area around one of the shield securing screws. Take both sides off, the're not back plates in the true sense, more like dirt shields/deflectors.

They're a hell of a lot easier to take off with the disc out of the way. But if you want ( if you are in a desperate hurry) you could try trimming the plate, or, put a thin bladed tool in between the plate and the stub and try to take it off cleanly ( they are very thin tin after all).
If it were me I'd concentrate on the one he knocked you back for, assuming the other side is in good nick?.
