Fuel gauge

Post by Cruz »

Took the van to get some welding done today and the fuel gauge was not working (was fine last friday) but the rest of the dashpod was.

Anyone got any tips and remedies as to what the problem could be (bad earths etc) before assume the sender has packed in, which I assume is a tank out job?

Sadly the sender unit is a tank out job, unless you know anyone who is about 10" tall who can get to the top of the tank? Its not too much hassle, just takes a bit of time and being careful not to rip the hoses off the expansion tanks. Good idea to get new hose and grommets while you're doing the tank.

Got new hoses and grommets as the tank is new, then came out again when Simon changed our clutch pipes

Try pulling the plug out behind the steering column/dash - underneath - give the connectors a good rub and see if it's any better.

I had a console that did as it pleased at will - sometimes I had rev counter/speedo/fuel/temp, sometimes a varying mixture of them, and on occasion none........lights always went on when requested though.....

green scouring pad and clean up all the contacts, moisture (from a leaky windscreen usually) can interfere with the workings. bentley has some test procedures but you may be aswell to get an exchange pod off a scrappers if you can trace the cause.
