Confused about engines

Post by Holdsworth »

Hello all,
Advice please.....I need to get a new engine for my T25 as my 1600CT has given up the gas. The problem is, is that I'm getting conflicting advice. One says that the 1600CT is pants, another says its not, and that i should get a 2L CU. One says it will fit in easily with little modification. Someone else, however, says that it won't and i will need to get a gear box as well....??
Do you think I should just get another 1600CT as i will have some spare bits form my old one and they seem easier to find. :? I would appreciate any advice as the summer is comming, sort of, and I need to get out and about..
Thanks very much

if you can live with the poor performance that the 1600 then just replace it ,there cheep and easy to pick up cause no one wants them ,but they realy are asmatic ,and not great for modern motorway trafic,
on the otherhand a 2L ac will give you about 20 more break horses and i much more capable engine ,you will have to change the box , i would think you could do the swap in a weekend with a bit of help and the right gear its a straight foreward swop .

I know jack sh*t about engines but if you were happy with your 1600CT performance, stick with it, it will be easier and cheaper to fit. If you would like a bit more poke and dont mind the little problems and a bit more expense go for the 2litre. Suppose it all depends on your personal circumstances, like if its your only car etc, whatever you decide good luck.

Yes yes yes,

Same advice as above! If you are happy with performance stick with 1600. I got a T25 with knackered engine, I got loads of advice about swopping for a peugot or other VW or even a subaru engine! they all fit with a bit of tweaking.

In the end I decided to recon my engine myself which has been the best learning experince ever. At the end of the day if you wanted to go like sh*t off a stick you probably wouldn't buy a T25 so perhaps you should stick to the same engine.
