Just got a 1988 devon moonraker 1.9 few weeks ago. and it has a LPG convertion
Now the the dealer who i brought it from didnt realy seem to know much about it. like when i asked where the LPG tank was we had to go looking, found it where the spare wheel should be.
when i was driving it he said that the LPG tank was empty. However when i filled up it only took 27 liters.
there is a little green light under a picture of a petrol pump on the fuel switch over (which has the logo of 'bristol' on it). and i assumed that this would go red etc when the LPG was low. however the engine stated to struggle etc, so i assumed that the LPG had ran out even though the light was still green.
Keep the ingnition components in tip top shape and DONT use fancy 3 tip, or platinum spark plugs
yes - I've been told this too...
Just out of interest...why can't we use the fancy spark plugs?
And what bit of the ignition should I be watching??
(sure that all is well at the minute as she is running fine)

Steve where are you
As far as I know it is because the gas needs a more powerful spark to ignite it.
So a good coil, good HT leads ( often overlooked, and don't buy cheap Halfrauds etc types ) a good dissy cap ( use genuine VAG ones ) etc help starting and smooth running.
As for plugs, it's summat to do with the intensity of the spark ( Steve ? ) and I do know you are supposed to gap them less than the norm to xxx thou ( Steve ? )
had multi point (spitfire) plugs in for the last 2000 miles (were in when Steve fitted the lpg system)and no probs but will change them when the service is due
seems to run fine, acceleration etc
if anyone is interested have now changed my sparkplugs and seems to run slightly smoother with the new plugs (old plugs seemed to be still in good working order)
will see if mpg improves and post accordingly
