HELP!! broken down, gas problems ?

Post by Jones »

Hi everyone and HELP!!! I've got an 85 Westy running a 2.1 engine running on gas.

I've only had it a couple of months and up until now its not missed a beat, this morning it started as normal but I noticed it wanted to stall at the first couple of junctions when I stoped which its never done before.

When it did it a mile down the road I decided to pull over and see if it would idle, it wouldn't idle but I gave the throttle a biggish blip and all was fine after that and I drove about 15 miles trouble free.

This evening I had to take one of my dogs to the vet and the bus did the same thing, after about half a mile I tried to put my foot down in third and when it got to about 3 thousand revs it started to lose power.

I just about got to the vets ( where I was Royally shafted by the way ) but when I got out it still wasn't happy, it started but as soon as I tried to pull off it lost power and wanted to stall.

Sorry this is getting long isn't it  anyway I had a look under the engine cover and the LPG thingy ( its a technical term ) that looks like a pump of some sort was completely iced up.

So I was thinking I had a Mk3 Golf once that had exactly the same symptoms when the carb iced up, are LPG systems known to do this ?

Anyone got any ideas as my Westy is stuck in a none to pleasant side street at the moment and my only idea so far is to sleep in it so that it doesn't get smashed up by idiots

Cheers

Steve
