Crank oil seal can be done with just the box out, if it is that... though obviously once engien out as well easier. I left engine in, due allt eh friggin pipes 'n tings... bit of crawlinga round but A-Ok once it was done.
... have the boss it runs against on the flywheel checked for bad scoring.

The clutch seems fine right now, no problems - but you have a point.
Ive just spent an hour cleaning underneath and still no joy - i think the rocker cover is leaking though...very hard to tell?
The drip in the middle part of the van, is fishy (to smell)- so Im guessing that is not oil...
it is the rocker covers imho just have em off and clean and re seal ,dont wory about the flywheel /midle oil leak till the clutch starts slippin they all leak a little (except mine

Hi, If youve got a 2ltr Aircooled then its likely, from looking at your pics, that the push rod tube seals are gone and you probably could do with rocker cover gaskets. Easy enought to do as with air cooled the tubes come out with everything in situ. You just take the rocker box covers off and the rockers and remove the spring clip, withdraw tubes etc. All set out in your Haynes manual.
to get this job done at a reputable garage who know what they are doing only costs around £60.00 and a steam clean around £10-£15.
The oil is leaking on to heat exchangers so you will need to live with smell for a while when repaired as it burns off.

60 quid to change the push rod tube seals and rocker gaskets!! Shame you don't live a couple of hundred miles north......
You can do it - it's easy peasy......hardest bit is getting the spring off in the first place, and Haynes talks you through it nicely. It's a cheap job and well worth doing purely if it eliminates it as the issue......plus, those heat exchangers really do stink.....

If you change your rocker gaskets, and they are cork ones, before you put the new ones in place, give both sides of each gasket a light amount of engine oil on both sides, it while help it stick and less likely to leak.
