Hi there,Ihave a dash from a 1983 watercooled 1.9
I am looking to buy a dash from a 1986 1.9 watercooled.
On the back of my dash, the multi connector is located on the vertical side of the rear of the temp/fuel gauge side of the panel.
On the newer dash the multi connector is located on the horizontal edge of the furel gauge/temp panel. All other layout seems the same.I believe my multi plug will reach this location as it can only be an inch difference. The rest of the dash configuration seems the same.
Does anyone know if this will be a plug and play for my van, or is there more to this than meets the eye?
Many thanks in advance for your help/reply
Dash compatibility

I don't know the exact answer, but I do know that around 1986 VW changed the fuseboxes and associated wiring a little bit. Blade fuses instead of ceramic onces.
That's probably the reason for the different dash wiring layouts. Someone else will probably tell you if it is plug and play or not, but if not I don't think it would be too hard to rewire the old into the new...
