The front prop is still in place and there is no evidence of diff wind up, suggesting that the viscous coupling is still OK.
Don't understand this deduction

Deduction along the lines of: I understand that when viscous couplings stop doing their thing folk tend to remove the front prop shafts to stop the front diff from winding up - the prop is in place and there is no wind up, i.e. it still drives and steers OK. If my deduction or understanding is incorrect, then advice as to why folks remove front prop shafts when viscous couplings pack up appreciated.
thanks in anticipation,

Well VC 's fail in 2 ways.Open or closed. If failed closed removing the prop shaft (IN TIME) not to cause damage or long term damage. If failure is open wich in my expirence is the most comon then no damage is caused but unless u do the proper relevant tests u cant tell.
Windeup is just a term very loosly used for exess preshure put on the drive train by a tight VC not nesesarly to some people a failed VC.This
dosnt just affect the front diff but the gearbox and all drive shafts aswell.

So probably hasn't gone too stiff to stress the drivetrain a bit, could be open, a quick drive up a reasonable wet grassy slope should prove that one way or another
Does look a particularly well preserved and good example of a Syncro

Hello, and thanks for the info- it definately hasn't gone 'open' - I got my 2 wheel drive T25 camper stuck at the bottom of a wet grassy slope where I keep it a few weeks ago - had to recover it with a landrover. So therefater I switched storage locations with the syncro and it ploughs up and down the slope like nobodys business - see mud spray up side of van from front wheels in ebay pictures. Diff locks work a treat too - however as I'm sure you know - don't expect to be able to steer when they are engaged!

Hello syncropaddy, yes you're right it would have been polite to also list the price in the classifieds, I considered this after placing the add and figured that the web link was fairly straight forward to follow hence I added it retrospectively. -For info', the ebay buy it now price was £4k - It has however now reached it's reserve of £2k (at which I am well out of pocket) so please feel free to grasp this rare opportunity join the bidding.
Regards,
TM

Yes indeed. £2k is a fair reserve and I can imagine even a £4k only a small profit will be turned when you factor in the work / paint job / parts you have done / fitted to it.
I am sorely tempted to bid on it as its RHD but there is a new batch of very clean Turbo Diesels just released from the German Armed Forces ...

Please Note: Despite having received many requests asking whether I'd consider selling this VW Syncro outside the ebay auction - as I stated in the original listing, now that the reserve has been met I intend to let the auction run its course. Good luck bidding!
