More Electrolux fridge problems

Post by Bowton Lad »

When I purchased my camper a fews ago the previous owner muttered something about the fridge needing regassing. When I mentioned this to
Horza last week he suggested disconnecting the fridge, turning it upside down for 24 hours (to get the circulation going) before reconnecting it
in it's usual position.
Before trying that I would like to have a go at starting up the fridge which
is an Electrolux ? (R)M 122B ? - the label inside with all the info on it is very tatty & only partially legible. :(
I am thinking that it is probably a 2-way fridge ie: gas/12v but if anyone
knows better please tell me. What is the correct procedure for lighting the gas & how is it switched on to 12volt? The only controls (bottom left below door) are a rotating knob/dial '1,2,3,off' & a push button which I assume
is the Piezzo ignition.
I tried the wiki but the above model is not covered & anyway starting up any fridges is not mentioned. If anyone can help, please do, I would like to have the fridge working before Bus Types. Thanks. :D :D

have same fridge so hope this helps...
1- turn control knob to position 3
2- push and hold control knob in and repeatedly push the ignition button
until the flame lights up ( takes a while for gas to come through so it may take a while )
3- keep the control knob pushed in for about 5 secs after flame has lit , (else you have to do it again) & bingo, should be alight.
4- if its a Devon and the fridge is on the floor you might want help to release your head from the carpet

the 12v switch is primarily for use whilst on the move, when the gas should be off. once parked up, 12v off and gas on!

I also have a R122. Your right, its a two way Fridge - 12V & Gas. Mine can be a sod to light, and can take some patience. It will take a while for the gas to come thru (well it does on mine anyway). What works for me, is when you know the gas is coming through keep pressing the ignition button in rapid succession. It may be worth while having the fridge serviced. Another point to note, my fridge (as are others i should imagine) is quite sensitive to angles, ie parking the van on a slope - when i have parked on a slope before, the fridge will light but will not chill the inside. from memory, i think the angle tolerance of the RM122 is +/- 3 degrees.

best of luck

Life is like a grinding wheel, it can polish you up or wear you down - it depends what you are made of !

Thanks nelly & skeeb for your advice. I'm going to have a bash at lighting the gas to see if the fridge will actually work. :D

I've attached a link for an instruction manual for the fridge in case it's any help. :D
