9 times out of 10 with the all vw diesels the tensioner is the cause of breakage, it is supposed to be replaced when belt is which means the belt has to come off before tensioner can be replaced.
Thats sound advice from Diamond Hell regarding doing stuff in the right order. The two manuals I've got tell you to lock the camshaft first with plate then loosen camshaft sprocket bolt , I guess this works ok if the bolt is torqued up correctly but its definitley worth cracking the nut before doing anything else.
Getting back to the original question, can you get the DTI anywhere for setting pump timing. I did mine today but made an adapter for my general purpose DTI, so I don't need one, just curious as to who sells them.
