I am about to splash out on new heat exch. Yeah i know i've got the loan! The old one from the offside had a bracket connecting the back of it to the heater blower housing (the big ally bit surrounding the big fan) but this had snapped off at the pipe end. Do new ones have this and are they needed as the pics i have seen of new ones (JK) dont appear to have them welded to them!

The brackets take the weight off the exhust box.On my 2ltr cu there was a offside rusted bracket the nearside was missing. The brackets look like they should bolt on to the studs between the heat exchangers and exhust box.I welded stand offs on to the heat exchangers and fabricated the brackets to fit they then bolt on .Maybe the stand offs on your old heat exchangers are non standard like mine.
