Repairing offside outer sill - big job???

As you can see in the PICTURE the previous owners have riveted a plate to the side of the van in order to cover the rust that had developed. Well now the two panels underneath have rusted so badly they have come apart.

The plate is still masking the damage nicely and will last a lot longer in it's current state but I'd like to find out how big a job is it to repair the sill using one of the LHD lower sills from JK/Schofields? Obviously they need modding to fit.

Would fixing it mean having to remove the interior?

And the 2nd problem....the cause.

Whats the most likely cause of the rusting as there is no point fixing it only to see it do it again. Could it be water getting in through the sliding window seal?

So 3 questions

How big a job is it?
Will the interior need removing to get at it better?
Likely cause?

Hi Shaun,

There's a well known problem with blocked/corroded sink waste pipes
on the offside of rhd T25s leading to corrosion of the lower panels.

Alan Schofield advertises the following:- Part No.13 P3 Side Panel......
(including Sill)...(O/S)...(needs modification) - (each) £32.00.
Also:-Part No.8 P3 Outer Sill.....(O/S)....(Not Illustrated).....(each) -
£23.50.

I have been told that the panels bolt on but I suggest that you get confirmation of that before you start work. If no welding is involved
then your task will be a lot easier. It looks like at least some of the interior may have to come out.

Having had this job done recently (search on General Discussion for sill replacement or something) there will be welding required. Also you will need to have the interior out. You need a professional to do this job - it ain't an easy job.

If you are in Manchester, there's a Member on here who used to be Dazzzer, but is now something like Dug who works in a bodyshop - might well be able to help you out.
