Coney Green Event

Post by Diamond Hell »

Big thanks to all for making it THE event to be at last weekend.

You don't find events like that on green lanes or a drag strip :D

and here's a couple of videos (from the camera of Futbus) of what has to be the Syncro of the event:

Further Russel Stylings

You don't find Syncros like that at any old event, either.

Ian won't let him forget failing the climb on that section for a long time...... must have been a relief to find it was just tyre pressures - down to about 12PSI by the end I think and gripping like chewing gum on the sole of a shoe! :D

Have to say a big thankyou to our Syncronauts Committee, everyone played a part in making the event happen again and keeping it happening for 2.5 days and a special big thankyou to Thomas DH Cowley as this may be his last as Clerk for a while, for setting up his usual challenging but marginally possible trials and clerking the event safely again, as well as checking out and helping newcomers with their syncro diriving.
Very steep, very much fun, not just a drive in the park as so many discovered - lots of learning on the job going on!

Other thanks are due to:-
All those unsung heroes who helped with the Sprags and campfire, both ends of the weekend - vey necessary in early April..
Geoff for cheffing the barbecue again, and all those who contributed to the excellent spread - Julia, for the Sat afternoon banana cake and Sunday morning carrot cakes of immense proportions, yummeeeeeeeeee...
McGill for so generously passing his Scottish cold around, but we'll forgive him for making us all laugh Saturday night by the campfire with his amazing pole-dancing syncro

Andy and Aidan for getting the drivers signed on promptly and scruting the vehicles, a thankless task no doubt, but essential...
All the marshals, and especially those without syncros, keeping an eye out for everyone over such a wide ranging site, - many thanks!
Jake and Russel for taking the pros out Sat morning (and keeping dem outa our hair  )
Roger and Julia (of Panda 4x4 fame) for their experienced eyes, and the odd well made watchful comment - special thanks for donating a marshal's whistle to the cause.

21 vehicles seen at one point of which 15 syncros taking part - quite a line-up on the hill Sunday afternoon, but what a squall hit us after the cameras stopped clicking, just made it all the more fun and didn't hear a single moan about the weather - 'cos really it was perfect for us toughies :P

I guess everyone was a bit bushed after the weekend, lots of squalls and wind, but didn't notice too much hot-air around :)

Good to see spectators, beginners and experienced alike participating and enjoying the site and activities. Coney Farm now seems to be our 'home' site; central, good camping, spectacular views and a wide range of driving challenges - like-as-not, we'll be back there in the Autumn.

P.S. Don't forget that Euan is kindly donating a cracking prize that any true Syncro owner would covet, we need your one best CF3 snap, and if the winner isn't blindingly obvious, we'll just have to all vote on it. We will put them up on the club80-90 Syncro website, so send them to JennyTyger:-

syncronauts@ntlworld.com

Also, we should be able to host some videos, and a range of your snaps of event happenings. We'll certainly try, so send them in... thanks.

What a fantastic weekend...

Thank you everyone who so obviously put a great deal of effort in to make it such an enjoyable and rewarding event. Was really good to meet you all, learn about these machines...get muddy, banter, and drink beer...... in short...Mucking far velle us....! ;)

Cheers for all the help that those of you gave to this new novice member aswell. Was much appreciated... tools, atacama's, jacks, and tea etc.. nice one.

Am so impressed with what these Syncro's are capable of.. and I've only just dipped my toes into the mud..! Was chatting with Thomas whilst going round some of the course in Tonka, he mentioned about the looks of incredulity when hikers or Land Rovers see these camper vans up on the hills.. I see what this is all about now. I'm actually looking forward to be laughed at by a Land Rover driver off road..... before the Syncro starts moving that it.. ha...! Bring it on.

Is it possible theoretically to drive over a Defender then.... if conditions are right? There's probably enough points to get some purchase on...

I took a fair few snaps over the weekend. I will be sending a disc with all the full res images to Jenny, so that hopefully some can go up on the site. If there are any that people would like, do get in touch so can work out best method to get them to you.

Cheers again, hopefully see you soon

Adam and Tonka

down to about 12PSI by the end I think and gripping like chewing gum on the sole of a shoe!

Hehe! The other syncro of the event made it up at 18psi first time (well nearly first time, just had to find a good line without trees in the way) :)
Thanks to Andy Fendick for being on the spot and having a pressure gauge to hand and sorting the tyre pressures pronto, pronto, up to his ankles in mud and gore!

Interesting conditions down there with rain on all that deep leaf mould, very greasy in parts...

Thanks to eveyone for making me feel very welcome. I had a fantastic day and it was great to have a go (thanks Sam!) and to learn so much from everyone.

Gonna try to get the video sorted as a DVD........Might not be until Easter as I'm away from home this week. Will also try to make some short choice segments so they can be uploaded to the site.

there was a great moment just before that pic was taken where the van was just perfectly balanced on the front left and rear right then it gradually pivoted onto the right front wheel. Thanks all for the help, Aiden working his magic on the diff locks, Great session of van tinkering on Sunday morning Tonka hacking the front of his pristine SA Velle and Sam repairing Jen's gear stick. Thoroughly enjoyed it! Now to get my leaky gearbox fixed for the next one. much learnt!

I would also like to add Mrs Futbus`s and my thanks for such a fantastic friendly weekend.

Big thanks to Thomas for his help with our van to help get there and play in 4wd, Russell for the new VC, plus anyone else that helped in many ways over the weekend.

We look forward to the next event, although we now have to make the van a little more mud friendly inside and source some steel wheels and tyres.

I have some photos and some video footage taken from my camera but not too good a quality mainly due to the light breeze

Hope to see you all again soon

You're not the only one Bob, or two or three, some flange seals being ordered this week I sense... let us know who finds the best source and gets the best price....

... and I have to say, one of the best moments of the weekend is when I suddenly realised it was Bob in his nice clean Syncro having a go at Trial No. 1 on Sunday... and he didn't do bad
We were all lined up ready for some photies on the climb out when he went the other way :)

After the fourth jet wash things became clear.

Jet wash? What's that then Russel, never heard of that, do you have to go to an International airport or what?

Damage? Where do I start... ? Oh, well, just about crawled home by last light, and the prognosis in the light of day isn't tooooo bad. A few dents that I knew nothing about, a perfect gearchange that isn't anymore and can these AAZ's really run on zero oil pressure, with permanent buzzer-of-doom :?:

YES

Just had to add our appreciation to all the other plaudits mentioned earlier,we had as usual a smashing weekend, thanks to all those who attended, especially those who arrived early to get the event underway; and stayed behind to tidy up!! Can't wait for the next get together, when we should be 'legal' with our own syncro! We've still got mud dropping off the panda, even after being pressure washed last night.
