Fuel Filters

Post by Beach Bum »

I have just been reading a thread that mocki replied to about making sure that the fuel filter is next to the petrol tank. My mechanic fitted me an electric fuel pump and removed the small plastic filter from under the sill and put a glass bulb type filter next to the carb, will this create any problems, if so please could yopu explain why.

thanks Steve

i dont think it will make any odds where the filter is if you have a lekky pump, although it will mean the "pooh" gets all the way along your fuel lines before the filter catches it, if it catches it, because it will have had loads more chance to get mixed up into the petrol in that distance, and going tho the pump will mix it even more.....
the shape of the tank means there will always be sediment in the tank, and so the filter right against the tank was a good idea.

the reason the mech pumps fail more if there are two filter is because they are designed to pull, not push, and so the filter needs to be the tank end , as the diaframs dont last long with filters near the pump as well as near the tank.....
