Starter motor! grrrr

Post by vanagonjon »

I seem to be replacing starters on my 1.6TD as a bit of a hobby. At the moment i'm just getting a familiar click from the engine compartment when I try to start the van. Should I get a brand new starter or is ther a reliable way of getting the one I have fixed?????

Yours desparately

starter motor question

Post by coelodonta »

'Scuse me for hijacking your message but I too am just about to replace the starter motor as it has developed an irritating squeal on startup (not a fanbelt squeal), does that metal bush come with a replacement starter motor or do i need to buy it additionally.

It came with my exchange starter from GSF, though the spindle/spigot itself on the new one wasn't in brilliant nick - they should really supply a slightly undersize one when spigot worn - all A OK when fitted though.

P.S. If you have trouble getting genuine VAG parts, try Hemel H's GSF in Apsley High Street (ask for Natalie or John) - great service. They know their T25s, buses and onions.

So go on, tell us what a coelodonta is?

Jon
If i remember correctly an exchange unit is about £65 from europarts/gsf ..

The diesel one's have a nose on the end where as the pertol ones don't and therefore use the copper bush insert in the bellhousing

I had my starter rewired by an auto electrical shop in Leicester for 75 notes, seemed a good deal and has been Ok for 7 years- compared to the £250 dealer wanted :x
so look for local auto electrian?
