AM i right in thinking????

Post by Trent »

That other vw engines will just bolt straight in? I've read a little in the alt engines petrol bit. but i'm looking for more clarification. IF a wasser boxer engine is goosed and I'm looking for the cheapest alternative to stick straight in. apart from an exhaust needed to be fabricated what are the options? I'm handy with a spanner and even more handy with a soldering iron but as this isnt my bus i need the simplest and cheapest way of getting the bus on the road for my student friend.

does the clutch and fly wheel need changing?

Also sticking the engine through the hatch isnt to mutch of an issue as my afore mentioned mature student friend can just build a bed around it......?

In a word.. no. Sorry

The only engines which will "bolt in" to your van are the 1900, 2.1 Wasser and the Aircooled 2.0 litre and 1600CT engines from earlier Type 25's.

The porsche 911 engine uses the same pattern as the VW but clutch and flywheel won't work... plus all the other stuff to do the conversion.

Any of the inline 4 cylinder engines from the VW/Audi group require the Type 25 Diesel bellhousing and associated parts. Please read the How-to at the top of the page and try the search facility for others who have done similar conversions.

.. and they thought it wouldn't fit!!

Many people have spare waterboxers, most of them are in a 'waiting to be rebuilt' condition.... there is a reason for this

Sorry.

The initial post started:

i need the simplest and cheapest way of getting the bus on the road for my student friend.

So £1000-worth of Subaru PLUS £500 of adaptor (or use a proper RJES bellhousing) is hardly the ideal solution here.
