I might have posted this in the wrong forum?

hello all,

the nightmare continues!! Having worked most of the afternoon on my van it has become apparent that the head gasket has gone! Those two little words that strike fear into the hearts of all VW owners!

My question to you knowlegable types is wot to do????

Should I get mine fixed and then at least I know it is sound? Anyone know of the rough price of getting it done at a garage? Me and my mate are fairly handy, is it a job that anyone has performed themselves? Any tips?

Or should I trawl the scrap yards and websites etc to purchase a 2nd hand engine or engine substitute? My only concern there is I won't know the history and may purchase one that is on it's way out too!!

Yeah i think this one is more for trying to run yer van on methane produced from cows n stuff

Have a look around the forum, there's a technical question section and alternative engine bit. The folks on here are always willing to help and someone has usually done it or knows how to. Good luck.
