Got an 82 Aircooled. Recently she's been stalling when cold after I've touched the throttle. (eg. start her, drive her few yards, take foot off at junction, she stalls). Also smells a tad rich on startup. After about 2 miles she is fine, and will be fine driving home from work at end of day after sitting for a few hours.
Any ideas? Is she possibly running too rich on choke, if so how can I tune it back?
When warm (eg. after a good motorway burn) she sounds as if she is doing tiny backfires when ticking over. Any ideas?
Seems to get reasonable fuel consumption (22-24mpg), still got same top end performance as before, nothing recently been changed.
Many thanks for any advice.

Thanks for ideas guy's. I'll have a look at the plugs etc. They were changed less than a year ago though. The slight missfire might be due to a dodgy plug. Not sure it will explain the van smelling rich when cold. May be one of those things an expert may have to actually look at if the plugs are ok.
Gwa- notice your also from portsmouth. Don't spose you know where VW City have moved to. They were about to move last time i called them.
