Wheel spats

Post by futbus »

what were they originally fitted to? 14" or 16" or both?
I have two fitted on the nearside and need some for the offside. these are only fitted to the back of the wheel arch, but remember seeing some fitted both front and rear.
Has anyone got any or know where I could get some please.

Rear of the arches only - Tristars and 16s have moldings.

The little wheel arch spats where fitted to the rear of all wheel arches on vans that left the factory with 6x14" wheels as opposed to the 5 1/2 x 14 wheels you normally got.

Then there were the 16" wheel arches, which cover the whole arch, front ones are 2 piece and the larger piece is joined to the door. These are good as they keep your wheel arch clean, hence your pants when getting in and out!
To retro fit these requires chopping the last bit of the arch away, as they were a factory bodge to cover up the fact that the 16" syncro had inch longer rear arms and taller tyres, these would have rubbed the arch so they had to clearance the arch, to cover up the pig ear left behind the fitted the Baur (of crappy BMW convertibale fame) made arches.

There is a variation on these fitted to German post office vans, the keep the workers clean, but they were fibreglass and only fitted to the front/

Then, theres another variation on the 16" ones, the TriStar ones, these were like the 16" one but with an extra lip running on the inside of the arch, not too attractive those.
