maybe I can come see where you play sometime later in the year? I havent been back to Derbyshire for some years.. lived in Ashford in the Water and Chesterfield so used to go biking (road) all over the area + several years regular camping trips in Wetton and around... Oh happy days...
Often used to go up to Carver edge for some quiet reflextion at sunset..

Well i am going to do a route around holmfirth that may suit a syncro apart from one bit that even a landy needs waffles on, maybe a months time, need to reccie it first.
That sounds like the ramsden road, a syncro will p*ss that, I struggle on my push iron though!

Seriously Landy, would be interested to hear of any excursions around Holmfirth, I live there!
Not exactly sure what you can and can't ride around here, theres the stuff around Yateholme and Cartworth moor but any more than that and Im stuck.
I know theres a dead end through Holme village, but thats just a farm track.
Theres Harden Moss road, but according to my landlord who farms 2000 acres around this area that it gets pretty washes out.

Derbyshire i aren't sure is syncro type terrain but i will reserve judgement until i have seen what they can do in a fortnight, although there are some easier lanes with some very good views down there. I'll let you all know about Holmfirth when i have reccied it myself. The lanes up there are not usable at all times of year. I have a grid ref for the awkward lane but no name as yet, this is a piccy though.
If a Syncro can climb that without a waffle then that is good, i have nothing like that up my sleeve for the Dales run (i think my 90 wont need waffles either but until i have seen it myself.........)

Thats Ramsden road, you come through Holmbridge, Past Brownhill res on your right, past the Yorkshire water car park, turn left adjacent to the waterboard house, lane goes up though trees, sharp right then the large stone step you floundered on.
Lane then carries on up, over a cattle grid, to a Y junction where you turn left (straight on is a dead end)
Track now heavily rutted, levels out to a small paly area to right (Quarry) then is kinda road like from there on.
Or maybe you enter from the other end, through Lane village, up towards Holme moss then turn off onto Rake head lane.
Follow that down (Most of which I have done in a lowered T3 panel van with no problems!) past Yateholme res, over brownhill and turn right into Ramsden road adjacent to YW house.

Just after reading through this entire thread. Very entertaining reading I have to say. Im not one who posts a lot on here but I thought Id throw in my 2 cents here. Ive had a syncro for the past year and a half. Im on road tyres and its fairly stock aside from 16" alloys. Personally Im amazed at what the syncro can do. The first time I took it offroading I couldnt believe where I was driving. I can see why my van was used as a mountain rescue ambulance in Meath (Ireland). That said, yes it has disadvantages. The approach and departure angles are a bit low and the suspension articulation would be handy if youve bottomed out with your wheels down tractor ruts on either side. With a bit of creative driving though, you can get out of these situations most of the time and carry on. The land rovers on the other hand, in my opinion, are built as rugged off-roaders, thats it. On the road and comfort and practicality wise, Id take a syncro, no doubt. Off the road, I think the land rovers would have some advantages, but they have disadvantages too. You cant fry an egg in it on the top of a mountain!
