1.8t engine angle
Has anyone ever fitted a vw/audi 1.8 turbo into a t25, if so can you crank it over to the same angle as a diesel or do you have to run it upright?

The block's a different shape, so you won't be able to fit the T25 sump and oil pick up, especially as the sump is alloy, so you ain't gonna weld bits on to make it a different shape either - sorry.
Oh and the same issue means the engine mounting bars bar won't up either.
You could probably use an adaptor plate *spits* but that'll need home-made engine mounting systems and all sorts.
You might be better off looking towards a G60 lump with a turbo if you don't like the supercharger.
A chip-swap and pulley change should yield you 200bhp, then you just need a clutch to take it...

In a bit of a quandry, initially bought 2.2 subaru to go into auto caravelle but decided gearing isn't tall enough so bought a late 915 box but then decided subaru wasn't enough so bought audi 2.8 v6 but concerned about how high it will stick up through engine compartment so just been offered 1.8t engine and wondered about the angle change. Would have to use adapter plate I know but I can machine up a nice one with a flywheel to take the 915 clutch. Sounds like the the 1.8t is a no-go anyway and I could do without spending another grand. Do you know anyone who has fitted the audi V6?

There are 2 different blocks used for 1.8t's. T25 diesel bits should all fit on passat/a4 block the nearside engine mount will foul turbo. The golf/a3 block is completely different.
This should give you some idea of what is what with the 20VT 1.8 engines.

If you have a 915 gearbox then I'd look at making your adaptor plate so that the engine sits at its regular angle rather than slanted over and cope with the height issues. The oil galleries are probably different in the 20VT (so no idea about the oil returning properly from the head to the sump) and along with having to change the angle of the Turbo and return to the sump, you'll be creating a lot of work for yourself.
The Audi V6 2.8 is not a bad engine with good torque and power and its short enough to fit into the Type 25 without clearance issues. This is definatley the route I would choose... plus once you have the adaptor and engine mounts made, there is nothing stopping you from buying a 2.7 Twin Turbo V6 from the Audi S4
The 915 gearbox should be good for 350-400bhp on an everyday vehicle,

The audi v6 is only good with low miles, they start to leak oil from every seal/gasket they have and if they don't leak it they burn it. I have 2 regualar ones in work that are well past best an 99 A6 with about 100k and a 99 A8 with 166k they both leak badly.
