At a minimum, I think you require a vac. line from inlet manifold to LDA diaphragm on top of injector pump if AAZ (on side if JX). Fuel cut-off switch wired at least ..

Most AAZ's don't need a pipe from manifold to pump as there is nothing inside the LDA casing.

No boost enrichment on AAZ generally, but they did fit 4 different injection pumps to them, most don't, some do.
Some have a pipe going to them but a straight boost pin, which is useless.

Praps i should pop the top off and have a look... be brave Clive

What I need to know Simon, is the advance lever the one between the pump and the block connected to a solenoid towards the front of pump with a short cable. If so, back of car or forward for advance, starting? That would help, engine runs quite well with it pulled back, but solenoid was holding it forward, but happy to admit, a bit confused.

Or is this a simple enrichment device, as prevowner of engine had some sort of overfuelling rigged up from cab at one time. As engine then transplanted, all sorts of bits missing or dubious.

Sounds like one of the later engines with the cold start control unit, which advances the timing to cut Nox emmisions, I am a bit confused by your description though :?

Solenoid with a screwed connector poking out forward front left of pump, down between pump body and engine. At back of this cylindrical solenoid? a cable comes out co-axially, running aft to connect to a small slotted bullet connector that hooks onto a short operating arm, again, low down between rear of pump and engine. A screw locks the cable to the bullet, making it adjustable, the slot presumably allows some tolerance the solnoid doesn't have to pull the lever forward all the way (can't imagine the cable shoving it backward, even though its fairly thick)

When back, engine runs smoothly at idle, when forward, much less so..

I'll photograph the pump from above today...
