Gas running problem

Post by richie »

Hi everyone and I guess especially Steve,
I bought my prevously LPG converted '89 T25 1.9DG engine last year. Been running on gas ever since just about.
Just put my van in for a service with a local mechanic, who admittedely wasn't too clued up on gas. Basically he optimised the engine for petrol running. Since that I've been unable to run on gas - I've tried switching it over a couple of times but the engine cuts out.
From what I've seen on Wiki - the sparkplugs seem to be the most likely culprit.

Does that seem the most likely? Is there anything else thats usually altered between petrol/lpg running?

At the moment I've left it on petrol till I get some work done, namely new exhaust, welding on sills and MOT!!

Cheers for any help, alternatively I guess I've a long drive down to see Steve from Scotland!!

I've only tried switching over a couple of times, each time it's been the same the engine sounds like its really labouring, then cuts out and ignition lights comes on. I've been a bit wary of really trying too much as I'm hoping to get it through its MOT later this week and didn't want to risk knackering something else.

Cheers

i'd be asking the garage what they have done to the van , then phoning gasure steve up and getting some advice

you could try switching it over while doing some speed to see if it runs then , if it does then the system is running and just need fine tuneing .. if it doesnt run then the garage could have switch off or disconnected something

I assume you are letting the carburettor empty correctly, until it will not run anymore, the vehicle will not run on both fuels, switching the switch to the middle should cut both fuels off and allow you to empty the carb, then you can switch to gas, sounds like you have both fuels trying to run this vehicle, if in doubt ring me - 01244288862

Cheers for the advice.

I'll check the type of sparkplugs with my local mechanic and a list of other things done this afternoon and hopefully I'll be back in touch in the next few days. Hopefully after passing my MOT....Fingers crossed! :)

Cheers
