"Incomplete" Rear Spring.

Just failed the MOT today on nothing much other than an "incomplete" rear O/S spring.

Is it usual for these to break??. Thought of having the lot out and lowering suspension but really cant justify the 350 squid for springs & uprated shocks at the moment. Will pick up a spring & fit.

Any one advise on a reputable supplier of standard size springs??

Give a shout out on here someone will have a spring lying around easy to replace 15 minute job at the most just undo the shock and press the rear arm down out pops old spring in pops new one bolt shocky back up job done

The bottom section of spring does snap- as happened to us when at the S of France - but you can hardly notice.

The're a doddle to change. Very easy to come by.

Thanks everyone. A member near to me in BHam has made me an offer I cant refuse which I'll take up.

Interestingly enough the local garage has quoted 2 hrs to do the spring!!!!.
I'll sort it myself.

Two words to 2 hours:

ONE BOLT

That's all you need to undo to change the spring when you've jacked the van up.

Come on Thomas - you can't knock the mechanic. Yeah two hour job,

Undo bolt - after using 10 different sized sockets and finally pick the right size

have cuppa

lower arm down,

have a cuppa

do some work on own car - charge this in the labour to a customer

have a cuppa

remove old spring

answer phone to customer - "its gonna take a bit longer as its a rare cherry part - perhaps this time tomorrow"

replace spring, put bolt back on - loose,

have a cuppa - forget about loose bolt

get money from customer

charge customer when they come back to get bolt tightened - say the must have driven over something

of course there are some reputable garages about

I do not know what is different on my 1984 camper but the rear springs cannot be changed without undoing the drive shafts. The trailing arm will not go down far enough even with spring compressors on the springs!

Do the early vans have something different?

I've got an early van (1984) and i changed mine without even taking the wheels off!! you need a decent jack though to get it up high enough.
