T25s as a working vehicle

T25's as work vehicles.

Anyone use one as a working vehicle?
Was wondering how much load they can take.
A lot of users say they are slow on hills etc, just wondered how one would cope with a tonne of sand on the back etc. Presumably it must have been in the design brief

Work in a repair garage. Got a j plate twin slider 2.1 5 speed. Very thirsty but have loaded with 1 tonne of scrap steel ( brake disc, doors, exhausts) etc . Seemed to cope with that o.k. Regularly use it to tow a trailer and car. Presume you would be better with a pick up? Great vehicles though but can be hard work to keep maintained if covering lots of hard miles.

Just came back from Greece last week where i was working at a Greek Airforce Base nr to Patras their whole fleet of vehicles consists of T25's . It was awesome a full range of Doka's, Sika's ,Microbus's and a few other weird and wonderful utility vehicles all of them well maintained albeit slightly dusty and dented !!

I've used a T25 as a work van for the last three years no problem. But they are mostly 20 years old, not the same as a modern vehicle. Notice the pikeys don't use them, they use transits

hi,i have a 1.9 petrol pannel van on an f plate.i am self employed & have used it for nearly 2 years now,its been reliable & perfect for my business,the down side is you will never get anywhere fast & the more you load it up the higher the fuel bill (thank god petrol is back down to 86.9p a litre)

Had a double crew cab with a sooped up beetle engine for years. I lived out in the sticks and every month would drive to Jewsons and clear their offcuts skip, accompanied by my kids who were then 13, 9 and 5 I think. We'd all get in the skip and fill the back of the crewcab as high as I dare then took the whole lot home. The pile would last a month easy in my open fire. As I had a back-boiler my heating and hot water bill sank to zero :D

It pulled the weight no worries although if I needed to brake, I had to have it in writing a week in advance :lol:

My younger brother keep telling me I should fit a towbar on the Caravelle I have now but so far anything I've needed to move has gone inside. Lets face it, anyone with a T25 ends up moving stuff for relatives and neighbours - goes with the territory.

A Doka will take a ton though only rated for about 3/4

I heard some vans going on weighbridge at 3.5 + tonnes loaded

Engine small for that weight unless you have a grunty 1.9 diesel or really good 2.1, so will be slow

Brakes as CovKid says are the biggest prob, make sure they are tip top all round and don't speed, esp. down hills...

We have used a t25 panel van for the last 10 years as a work vehicle. We are now on our second and its never caused us a problem being an older vehicle. Best thing we did was to gas it 4 year ago which in turn has been trouble free cheap motoring. Ok we have got through a couple of engines replaced with good secondhand engines sourced from members on here. But if you keep up with the servising and maintanance you should not have any more issues than using a newer vehicle.
