Instant hot water on tap

Post by minke »

I was reading an Austrailian Camper & Caravan mag.

There is a company selling a replacement tap for the washbasin (its only 240 volt) but will provide instant hotwater without a tank. Anyone know if they are selling them in this country?.

They're a drain (no pun intended) on amps and they reduce flow usually. Your best bet is to use a 12 volt (or 240v reduced power for speed) kettle and mix it into a basin with regular water. Cheap and simple.
was....82 Westy, 80 Mk. 3 Transporter, 69 Bay
now....66 T1 LHD 1.6 Bus

Thanks for that..I already have a little 12 volt Kettle & a 24o volt one which can run of hookup or inverter, just thought those ones in OZ looked quite cool (no pun intended. As they dont take up hardly any space. Otherwise I would wack a solar panel on top & have a small tank etc..for wild camping.

Cheers Kev...

what type of van have you seen that on then? you can get a zip tap for use at home has a mains supply and provides instant hot water but at over £450 retail i'd not have one in the house let alone in the van.

for the van, there are loads of things out there mostly working on gas, truma, carver jolly boiler to name but a few!

Have a look at the website
http://rvhotwater.com/installation.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://rvhotwater.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Its 220-240 not 12volt..hookup only....... :ok

My mechanic is from OZ & he says they are great for hookup..as you just replace the tap...no tanks or heater units, it heats the water IN THE TAP..

but as someone mentioned earlier, high amp usage if used on an inverter.

I use solar at the mo..but I like the idea of no tank & no gas etc.

Kev
We did used to use a truck inner tube when I was a kid, we would fill it with water (extra hole & cap fitted on top) & a bit of plastic tube but it did get hot..and it was free. :ok

Hi amps??? Try 300 amps on 12 volt ...... plus 20% for inverter loss equals 336 amps.. That's alot more then starter uses. :run

very interesting, but for the amount of times we are on hook up and even then it still uses over 13A so you'd have to be sure you have a hook up supply that's bigenough and then make sure you turn off any thing else you've got plugged in. looking at the web site they are designed for RVs which usually have a massive genny on board or have a 32A hook up input!

The shower head is interesting - i'd hope it comes with an RCD
