Just took my van out for a couple of 1 hours or so runs after redoing most of the brake pipes with copper... and sometimes I cant get 1st gear without a grind :?
I don't think its the clutch as stationary you can get 1st with only 1/4 of the travel on the pedal.. all the other gears are fine its just 1st. Would it be possibly the linkage / bushes worn? Its probably just coincidence that its started after doing the brakes!

Any ideas welcome!

Thanks,
Matt.

Try bleeding the clutch. ONly thing that the 2 have in common is that they both use the brake fluid reservoir. Got to worth a try before doing any thing more indepth.

if it's a five speed it will be most likely worn out and failed bearing under first gear, if it's a four speed probably just worn pinion bearing, but it could be linkage, I'd advise doing an oil change and see what you find on the plug.

Prob as Aidan says... Or you are trying to get into first at too high a speed when rolling... no need unless virtually stopped....
