Re: Early Christmas present - how sad
Apparently they (Timothy Ormerod Ltd, Bryngwyn Manor,Wormelow, Hereford, HR2 8EH) make a couple input shafts a month, he (Matthew Ormerod, who runs it) appears to be well known in the motor sport circle in this part of the country, rides a mountasin bike aswell!
Can also make gears which is of interest to Aidan and when I get some more money he'll be making the adapter plates for my disc brake conversion - T5 brakes all round.
Bryngwyn Manor is an old country mansion set in the lovely Herefordshire countryside.

with the surface grinding operations taking place up on the wrought iron railed mezzanine looking down onto the classic 18thC library, and Goods Inwards adopting it's familiar position as centre of the Grand Hall

I also like colouring outside the lines.

I've noticed more & more of these TDi motors being put in. While I'd (most people) would love the extra power someone earlier said that they put out double the torque/Housepower/what-ever.
This means double the stress on the drive-train. And I would of thought a much shorter life expectance.
I sometimes see posts where people (ie fast-crew-cab) are fitting porsche engines & are wanting to fit certain gearboxes, certian codes/makes, ie stronger/heavier duty ones. After eating several normal/VW ones.
Can the syncro gearbox be made stronger? (probably one for Aidan there!)

Can the syncro gearbox be made stronger?
I think the Albins gear sets that Aidan gets from Oz are the result of that line of thought.
For example..
The original gear being the one on the left and the Albins version on the Right.

Are bigger teeth stronger?
Surely smaller teeth take more engineering. Why would VW go to that expense if it was cheaper to make it stronger?

Dont worry boy's, when I win the lotto I shall commision Ricardo, the British company responsible for the Buggati Veyron gearbox to make a sequential 7 speed, epicyclic dual range syncro gearbox, to go with the audi V6 tdi motor.
There will be enough for everyone.

Thanks Simon, we'll hold you to that then... keep picking them numbers!
Ricardo - also responsible for the JCB Diesel World Speed Record holder and the indirect injection Comet cylinder head, as used in the IDI VW diesels, two amongst many hundreds of developments Including some incredible aero-engines.. Oh! and the engine for those strange tapezoidal WW 1 tanks, for which Sir Harry received £37,000 after the war

Believe it or not, in production, to cut deeper and fewer teeth would cost more but there are other reasons and noise is certainly one of them but VW designed a gearbox to work with the engines they had then and used then - not what we want to use now!!
Spur gears are the best but also the noisest - anyone who has driven a Mini with a close ratio spur gearbox will confirm that.
