Propex fitting

Post by Chrissyt »

How have you fitted the external exhaust and inlets for your Propex gas heater? What fittings do you need? and where abouts in the van is best?

I didn't fit mine so don't know about fittings required. The actual unit can be housed in a cupboard (like mine) or under the rear seat - anywhere on the floor really. The inlet and exhaust on mine go straight through the floor under the unit with a few inches of pipe showing under the van. make sure any holes you drill do not hit the vans cross members etc. Have a look in the 'Wiki' at the top of the page; there maybe some information in there.

I was just after some info from someone who had one in their van.

I was more interested in the placement of the external inlets and exhausts, as I was concerened about water entering the unit?, and how did you seal the exhaust, by using a skin fitting perhaps? as surely not just drill a hole and stick it through??

Don't worry about water entering your van (unlike the bloke off 'Top Gear'). The floor is 14" above the road. Ever wondered why all your van is rusting like an egyptian mummy but the floor looks like it was made yesterday?
There is no need to seal the exhaust - it's only 3" long and goes straight outside; likewise for the inlet. As far as the holes go, measure and measure again, as long as you don't damage any load bearing stuff.

Disclaimer: get the unit checked if it's second hand

Which propex unit have you got?

I fitted one of the older propex x1?(i think) heaters last week under the bed in our van, can sort you some pictures out, if these will be of any help, i put the exhaust through the slanted panel under the bed heading backwards towards the engine bay and then removed an area of soundproofing surrounding the exhaust outlet and attached a small approx. 5 inch angled tail pipe , the combustion air intake comes straight through the van floor with a flexible stainless pipe leading under the van from the rear up through the floor and to the propex.
