1981 2.0l non starter

Post by lukewheels »

tried to go to work on monday in the kegster (2.0l Aircooled 1981). The lights came on, I turned her over but nothing. Battery looks good and I used it the day before, any ideas? It's not even trying when the key's turned and the lights don't go out.

try getting someone to turn the key while you give the starter motor a tap with a hammer mate.(make sure it's not in gear)!

Try tapping with hammer or like while getting someone to turn the key. If still no success you need to check that you have feed to your switch wire on the starter. You have 3 wires around starter. 1 big terminal with two thich wires on, one comes from battery to starter and the other is a loop wire from the starter to the alternator. The switch wire is a small wire with a spade terminal. Make sure this has a good clean connection and with a terst light get some one to turn key while you check if you havve feed. No feed problem with pos ignition switch etc. Feed there then starter dead or bad connection. Also check that the earths onto the engine from body and gerabox to body are good and intact. Good luck.
