Headlights wont turn off!!Hi
Hi, My headlights on my T25 wont turn off now!! If i turn the ignition completely off they go off, but when i turn the key another notch they come on even with the headlight switch on the dash turned off. I unplugged the dash switch completely and the lights still stay on. Ive removed the headlights and can see now live or broken wires. I can see no live/broken behind the dash pod either. Any ideas? thanks

Re: Headlights wont turn off!!Hi
When you say "another notch" do you mean they come on when the key is in the 'ignition' position?
Or do you mean they come on when the key is fully off as in the position you normally remove the key?
If it's in the fully off position and your indicator stalk in not centred, the parking lights will stay on at whichever side your indicator stalk is. But they are only parking lights and can only come on one side at a time (normally)

When the ignition switch is fully off (you can remove the key) the lights go off. Turn the key and the lights come on, headlight switch on dash makes no difference either switched on or off, the lights come on.

I'm sure someone will be along eventually who will reveal a uniquely VW way of wiring lights that explains it all......

Does your blower also work, and other items that should only come on with the ignition. If so, then I suspect your X relay, which turns on power with ignition.

Re: Headlights wont turn off!!Hi
I'm with big herb - sounds like the flasher switch (main beam/dipped beam) switch could be at fault or suspect at least....
It is by will alone that I set my 'van' in motion!

Re: Headlights wont turn off!!Hi
Would have thought unpluging the headlamp switch should kill it. Any relays fitted to the headlamps or extra spot/fogs? Do the rear lamps or plate lamps come on aswell?
If its just the headlamps on it sounds like its getting an X or 15 feed somewhere between the headlamp switch and the dip switch, removing relay 18 might do something (it shouldn't, but then...). Try unpluging the dipswitch, that should definately kill it. Then you'll have to check the loom and fusebox between them by unpluging bits working back towards the headlamp switch to find which bits causing it. Be cafeful with the looms as if they have rubbed through and shorted desturbing them a bit could make the problem disapear when its not fixed, or start a smoldering. If you find anything that looks like someones modified it be suspisous (if they modded it tidyly you probubly won't think "thats been modified" when you see it!).
Any clues to the vintage and spec of your van (ie RHD or not). They differ slightly.
