Excess fuel pump lever disconnected HELP!

Post by dieseldave »

1600 normally aspirated diesel

Hello,

Thanks to help from lots of folk on the forums my Van is now starting on a regular basis (it's been so good I've treated it to a new headlight and bumper end!)

Last time I posted with starting problems a few folk talked about the excess fuel or extra fuel lever on the fuel pump.

With the aid of a torch and some advanced yoga I've managed to catch a glimpse of the elusive lever,

It appears it isn't connected to anything, it's disconnected and in the "end of arm nearest the back of the van" position it looks like there should be a cable fitted (no sign of one anywhere!) and that if there was it would pull the lever towards the front of the van. (also no sign of a control in the cab where one should be)

My question is:

If I were to jury rig something for the time being to aid with cold starting would I be aiming to pull the lever forward or pushing it back (I'm guessing there might be fuel economy implications if the lever were left in the wrong position)

:ok

Many thanks in advance

Dave

I've never had to use the cold start lever....

Lot of hassle if you havent already got it. Is it disconnected or just not there?
