I am about to service my engine this weekend 1.9 dg bought new air & oil filters sump plug & seal. When checking the engine when we bought it looked at the breather tower and was told it should have a gauze in it, it hasn't went to gfsthey don't do it was wondering if anyone knows where to get it or do I have to replace the the whole tower/housing.
Many thanks Sas

Re: Breather housing gauze
Never seen a guaze in ours (late DG/DJ)
What I'd do is to remove the tower (carefully making sure the 4 m6 nuts/washers don't drop into the crankcase
) and having stuffed the hole with a rag to prevent losing something else down the hole, give it a good old blow out with WD40 or similar. Dry it well and replace it ... checking the base O-ring and again be carefull with the nuts etc.

Re: Breather housing gauze
there is no gauze, people stuff chicken wire in their when they breath heavily to stop them clogging the carb, there should just be a deflector plate inside

Thanks Ian & Aidan will be looking at it on Friday, checked the air filter before and noticed oil in it is that normal
It wasn't really bad but then it hasn't been used very much looked like it had come from the breather tower
As you can tell not done this before
Cheers Sas

Re: Breather housing gauze
usually you will find a little condensed oil on the intake side of the filter housing, unless it's contaminating the filter not a problem, more notceable on the 1.9 because of where the breather pipe connects into the pancake, but does happen on 2.1 to an extent too despite having a little heater valve to reduce condensation
