erratic temperature gauge and warning light.

Post by elsid »

I went into town the other day and on the way home noticed the warning light flashing and the temperature gauge needle on the pin. I went for a drive of about 10 miles this morning watching the gauge carefully. Everything was OK until I came into the village when the warning light came on again and the gauge went to the end of the scale. Within a few yards it returned to normal and the light went out. Then the light came on for a few seconds although the gauge stayed normal. There were no signs of overheating, I checked the waterpump drive belt and the coolant level and they were OK so I put it down to an electrical malfunction, any suggestions?

sounds like either a bad earth or cruddy electrical connection if it is not a airlock.........
if it is a airlock,, the heater will go cold just before, or just after the gauge goes silly, about 15litres of coolant after............ if the heater remains hot, then id say its electrical from your description...........
