Best place to get 12v thats switches with ignition

Post by ringo »

Hi,

I need a 12v that comes on with the ignition for a rev counter im fitting. Is there an obvious one to pick or do i just need to hunt around with a volt meter?

Thanks

Look at the back of the ignition switch you will find two black wires that go to the same point on the ignition switch, these are the ideal place to tap off for ancilaries as they stay live when the engine cranks, of course it should be suitably fused.
Hope that helps.

On the back of the fusebox terminal G2 and G5 are ignition switched circuits and take standard 6.3mm female blades. G8 is dash lights, handy if you want extra guages iluminated and diming with the rest of the dash. Tidyest way to do it in my opinion as you don't need to cut anything.

This sounds very tidy. I will have a look at the fuse box now.

I seem to remember not having much luck getting access to the rear of my fuse panel...

Thanks Glen

Just found G5 and G8 - G2 was already used.

Thanks for that top tip Glen - just wired the tacho up and it works a treat :)
