Not the fuel pump won't start but the engine won't cos the fuel pump doesn't have enough suck. The 1.9 dg 'velle has been standing about for couple of weeks and the fuel level appears to have dropped back to the tank in the supply hose. I would like to 'syphon' this back but can't figure out how.

That's correct, Mocki. The inlet & outlet pipes used to be aligned one above the other but for some unknown reason the latest ones have one of the pipes facing about 45 degrees to one side. This causes difficulty in fitting flexible fuel hose to the pipe without severe kinking.

Might have a go anyway. Seems odd that the JK version is £15 and JK say the GSF verison is the same but £45.
The Pierburg (OEM) fuel pumps sold by GSF & JK changed design as described in my previous post. At GSF the correct pump was around £40 (less 10% club discount) & at JK around £45.
The one on sale at JK @ £15.95 has the pipes one above the other which is how they should be on a 1.9 DG but the pump doesn't appear to be a Pierburg. It's difficult to read the writing on top of the fuel pump in the JK link.
Before you change the pump check the fuel filter! That was the problem on mine. Apart from facing at an odd angle, the inlet pipe on the JK pump is a larger diameter than the original. The one I received from JK is different to the picture that they show. When I called them they said it had to be modified to fit a 1.9DG but that was three months ago and it may be that they have renewed the item. Never used it as it turned out to be the filter.
E D I T. The JK item In Bowton Lads link states that it requires modification, it aint the one you get!
I linked up a spare gallon I had with some temp pipe and it ran. So I checked for blockages by sucking the fuel supply pipe some mouthful of petrol later it all seems to be running fine though had a slight leak on the return pipe from the carb but chopped the end off and this cured it!!
The very friendly and always helpful Andy at Farnbourough VW had a spare 2nd hand one for me to try if i was really stuck but this seems to have sorted it for now.
