just got a new air box,and this on the end of this new air box wat is this green thing,the air box out of a 2.1 dj,and my van a 2.1 dj so what i like to no what it is and were does it go, here a picture to help u

imo.its probably something to do with some sort of lpg conversion..

is it actually part of the filter or just mounted on the housing?. looks like some kind of vaccum unit
i live with fear every day.
but sometimes.

There was a bright green spherical thingy like that on a 1981 Jetta that I owned many years ago. It was something to do with ensuring that if you were driving uphill/on the level/downhill the engine (1.5l carb) always got the correct amount of petrol.

Given that on Hercules van it's connected to the air box could it be equalising the air (pressure) to the engine under varying conditions?

have you tried sucking/blowing down the pipe.what happens.?

Yup, just store a vacuum in it and put it away on a shelf for later, it'll still vac when uum want it to :wink:

But not needy on your wagen, its only attached to the filter unit I expect, not connected into it?

Etka does not show a variation of the aitbox with the vacuum unit in this position.

How is it attached to the airbox?

Most probably a modification that someone has made.

it fix on ok in the right place ibelive it no modification to make it fit have a look at picture and have a look at yours you see they a bit on back of airbox it fit to,the part number on the green thing is 049129808c if u look it up on www.vagcat.com it come up on there,
it fit Typ 2 1988 , 24., 25. VACUUM SYSTEM 2.1ltr. SS

Not many SS engines about, I think iirc it was for the swiss market, but have never seen one. Looks like a variation on the idle stabiliser, possibly to do with emissions.

I have it on mine too - 2.1 SS. I'll take a piccy when I get back to UK. It's definitely not a gash mod!
