Not sure if this is in the right place or not. Anway, had an engine bay fire last week, looks a bloody mess, had a small fire extinguisher but a fire engine was called and the doused the rest. Sad to say the least, anyway called insurance and they sent an assessor round today who spent all of five minutes with the vehicle, now I am no expert and I dont want to cast aspertions on the chaps ability but I would have thought it would have taken longer than that to ascertain what was shot and needed fixing or replaced. He says carb spitback was the cause...I am sure he just wanted to see if I had set it alight......at a set of lights in a busy town next to the petrol station I was going into....unlikely.
He seemed to believe the vehicle was worth money and seemed aware of their value however he seemed to think that getting parts would be a doddle...I am not so convinced....nor am I confident in his overall assessment. Insured with KGM fully comp......where do I stand.......can I insist on new components, carb, alternator, pipes, fuel lines, ht leads, breather, filters...I think the wiring is burnt but he said nowt.........surely with the heat there may be an issue with the head and other ancillaries.
Any advice here would be helpful...and if anyone knows of a good garage in scotland who could sort this out I would be grateful...........would they just write it off.....never claimed on anything before so ignorant and naive here...its a 1983 1.9 four speed petrol water cooled...body in good shape and until the fire a cracking wee driver.................my mates have stopped referring to it as the camper and now call it the campfire..........tears
Any advice
Thanks

hi,
sorry to hear of your fire.......
first things first...... what van and engine is it???
secondly, make new petrol pipes part of your service plan...... odds on it was petrol pipes rather than carb spitback......
thirdly, do not let the insureance company bully you, its you van, not theirs........
