I have a 1989 1.9 DG panel Van which I use for work. It does not carry a heavy load (I am an electrician) my current DG engine is getting a bit tired now, smokes when I accelerate, has an oil leak and has covered the best part of 200,000 mile.
Do I spend money sorting the current engine out and or replace it with a like for like or do I go for something a bit different? Are there many tuning options to increase the output for the DG?
I have a 2litre 8v from a MK3 golf sitting in the garden which could be fitted once its been checked over or do I look at something else? Everyday economical use with a bit of poke is what I am after.

hi
its all down to money , time and your ability
simplest option is take it too a reputable garage and have them fit a recon engine (like simon baxter on hear)
or you can get to work on it yourself and fit whichever engine you like!
your talking at leat 1000£ whichever way you go ,and anything upto 5000£
