mileage on speedometer
Can anyone tell me to change the mileage on a speedometer, it is legal I need to fit a new one on the van and need to put correct milage on. HELP!!!!!!!!
milage on speedometer
For everyones information it is not DODGY, nor am I trying to be dishonest. My van is in kilometers at the moment being imported from Germany, if you have a van of over 1986 to get it registered you have to have a speedometer that shows the speed and distance in miles per hour and miles not kilometers in distance. I now have a speedometer that is in miles not kilometers so i need to adjust it accordingly, NOT DODGY NOR DISHONEST just trying to show the exact miles calculated from kilometers

Settle down behai.
No need to go yelling at people just cus we are joking around a little.
As I said, mines been changed 3 times. Was originally KM too.
It's not easy to adjust the wheels in an odometer. In fact it's a right mare to do and get them set so they look right and not DODGY after it's done.
Simple way is to just put a mph clock in and log what the km is when taken out and what miles are with mph clock, and Bob's your fathers brother.

Well I have just repaired my speedo and used the guide below
http://www.twistedlimbpaper.com/brian/v ... ometer.htm
It was fairly easy to do and just required some patience to realign the parts. Nothing too complicated and nothing to fear with it. You will have to remove the shaft with the small cog on it (it engages with the worm drive gear), reset the mileage reading to what you require, then reassemble. It'll make sense after reading the above info on the link
I bought my van with 145'000Km's showing and got round to fixing it yesterday, so readjusted reading to show 160'000Km's.
Is that breaking the law

The law requires the speedo have MPH and kmh on the face, but theres nothing about what the odo reads in. Its very common and perfectly legal for imports to have the trip counters still in km. Most grey imported jap cars are like this (they just change the clock face to have miles on it). Vehicles with tachographs and british army vehicles have km trip counters too, along with kmh as the major scale on the speedo (but unlike imports they also have MPH as a minor scale making them legal.)
